Introduction
Welcome to SBI — StatBlitz Index.
SBI is an independent NFL power-rating and game-prediction model built to answer a simple question: which team is stronger right now?
Unlike systems designed to mirror betting-market spreads, SBI develops its own view of team strength through a recursive process. Each game provides new information, team ratings evolve throughout the season, and the model uses those accumulated results to produce weekly rankings, tiers and game projections.
The primary objective of SBI is straight-up winner identification (SU). Against-the-spread performance (ATS) and projected-margin accuracy are also tracked as important measures of how well the model evaluates the difference between teams.
What SBI considers
SBI evaluates teams through its own evolving rating structure, incorporating game results, opponent quality, performance relative to expectations, strength of competition, recency and other internally derived signals. Those elements interact recursively as the season develops rather than relying on a single static power rating.
The system is intentionally designed to operate largely on information between the lines.
What SBI does not attempt to predict
SBI does not try to account for every real-world variable surrounding an NFL game. It does not make subjective weekly adjustments for injuries, quarterback availability, weather, coaching decisions, motivation, media narratives or late-breaking roster information.
Those factors can matter—sometimes substantially—but SBI’s purpose is to measure what can be learned systematically from team performance itself.
That means SBI should be viewed as one independent analytical opinion, not as a substitute for current news, injury information or the betting market.
Early-season caution
NFL seasons begin with limited current-season evidence. SBI therefore enters each year using an offseason starting point and progressively incorporates new information as games are played.
Early-season projections can consequently be conservative, including relatively small projected margins. As the season develops, SBI has more current-season evidence from which to evaluate teams.
Rather than manually correcting those early projections, the production model is allowed to operate in cruise control and learn through its established process.
2026: Follow the model live
Beginning with the 2026 NFL season, SBI’s weekly predictions and results will be published and tracked as the season unfolds.
Visitors will be able to follow team rankings, tiers, weekly game projections, SU performance, ATS performance, projected-margin accuracy and the movement of teams throughout the season.
There are no guarantees in NFL forecasting. The purpose of SBI is not to claim otherwise.
